Mexican croc likes a leak

I’d normally expect this story to emanate from the Northern Territory in Australia, but now I’ve learnt they have crocodiles in Mexico.

An American tourist got more than he bargained for when he was attacked by a crocodile while attempting to urinate on the sly in the Mexican resort of Cancun recently.

According to Mexican police 20-year-old Andrew Dales, from Dallas in Texas, confessed that he had been on a mission to relieve himself at the edge of the local Nicupté Lagoon , in the popular tourist resort of Cancun, when the crocodile suddenly snapped at him.

Andrew suffered ‘multiple bite wounds’ to his leg and neck and was also left with a head injury after the reptile knocked him to the ground, a police spokesman said.

Cancun is located on the Yucatan Peninsular, and if popular with foreign tourists.

Cancun’s crocodiles (principally American crocodiles, Crocodylus acutus) are non-aggressive species that feed on fish and other small wildlife.

The 5000-hectare lagoon is home to approximately 25 of the species – though most of them live away from populated areas.

Tourists however are advised to be careful and lagoons in the area are dotted with crocodile warning signs.

And serves the guy right!  I’d be angry to if someone tried to piddle all over me.
