Rocking on the high seas

The concept of theme cruises continues this December with the Rock Legends Cruise aboard Liberty of the Seas.

This is a fully chartered cruise, so the new normal production shows won’t be performed, instead entertainment will be by a variety of acts, some of which are very big names indeed.

The headline band is the Texas power trio ZZ Top. Comprised of Frank Beard, Dusty Hill and Billy Gibbons ZZ Top have been performing together for over 40 years and have had a plethora of hits including Legs, Tush, Sharp Dressed Man, Cheap Sunglasses and my personal favourite La Grange.

Another superlative band that will perform is George Thorogood and the Destroyers whose downright dirty blues sound has given us hits such as Bad to the Bone.

The biggest venue on board Liberty of the Seas is the 1600-seat Liberty Theatre, so to see bands of this calibre outside of stadiums will be very special.

Other great acts who will play during the cruise include John Kay and Steppenwolf (John was the lead singer of the original band), who gave us the rock anthem Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride,  good ole country rock boys The Marshall Tucker Band, Johnny Winter and his band, plus his brother Edgar Winter and his band, and Foghat, they’re famous for a few outstanding hit songs such as Fool for the City, Driven Wheel and the well-know hit I Just Wanna Make Love to You.

There are heaps of other bands and musicians joining the cruise as well.

This four-day cruise sails from Fort Lauderdale to the Royal Caribbean private island at Coco Cay and a stop at Nassau.

Of course, if you do book for the cruise there is a good chance that you could hobnob with your favourite bands on board as band members use the restaurants, bars and passenger facilities.

Who knows?  You could end up in the pool with Dusty and Billy discussing the best beard gel to use.
