Wonderful Welcome at Noble Grape

Many wine lovers will know that the Margaret River region of Western Australia produces some very fine wines. For this reason, and because it is just such a beautiful area with a stunning coastline, verdant forests, and a plethora of gourmet food producers, the Margaret River region is also Western Australia’s most popular tourist destination for visitors from both interstate and overseas.

Although there is a town called Margaret River, and also a river which bears that name, the region does encompass a number of smaller towns that are scattered throughout the region.

One of those is the town of Cowaramup which, if you are driving towards Margaret River from WA’s capital Perth, is just 12 kilometres north of Margaret River on the Bussell Highway. As the name would suggest, Cowaramup does rely quite heavily on the cow for its economy. A notion that is obvious when you pass two cheese factories just before reaching the town.

Surrounding the town are some of the Southwest’s best wineries, not to mention a couple of pub breweries, and Western Australia’s best known chocolate factory.

All of which goes to make Cowaramup an ideal place in which to stay.

I was fortunate to stay in a guesthouse in Cowaramup, which was absolutely superb.

The Noble Grape is situated on the Bussell Highway just as you enter the town and, although it is called a guesthouse, the rooms are more motel style, but decorated to give you a real welcoming homely feel.

The rooms have the same facilities that you would expect in a hotel or motel, provide ensuite, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, but they are also imbued with delightful touches such as very comfortable lounge chairs, antique furniture, decent crockery, and each room has a private little patio area with its own lovely garden, and table and chairs for just sitting and enjoying the abundant birdlife.

Proprietors Rod and Donna are absolutely superb hosts who go out of their way to make you welcome; and who are more than happy to chat with you and make suggestions regarding your local touring.

The guesthouse is a bed and breakfast facility which serves a superb continental breakfast, complete with delicious home-made muffins. Although they don’t serve lunch and dinner, Rod and Donna can recommend good local restaurants, and each room has a microwave installed for those who wish to east something simpler than a full meal.

In front of the dining room is a leafy patio area where guests are welcome to congregate, and a barbecue is provided for guests who do wish to cook for themselves. Naturally, guests are more than welcome to sit on the communal patio to enjoy a glass of wine, or other drink.

The Noble Grape provides comfortable and classy accommodation in a delightful location with hosts who go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable; and who encourage guests to treat their residence as a friendly home away from home.
