Accor advises TripAdvisor

According to the travel journal TR Weekly the hotel group Accor announced earlier this week it has entered a content partnership with online travel website TripAdvisor to encourage transparency and objective comment and feedback about its properties on the popular hotel review site.

Accor, which is possibly the world’s largest hotel group,  having properties which cater to  all categories from budget to luxury, is providing a link on its website which will allow visitors to see customer comments about its hotels posted on the independent TripAdvisor.

Hotel brands under Accor’s umbrella include Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Novotel, Suite Novotel, Mercure, Adagio, ibis, all seasons, Etap Hotel and Formule 1 hotels in all of the Group’s host countries.

Comments and opinions of previous guests will appear on and on the TripAvisor website. Recently, TripAdvisor was the target of threats from some five-star hotel groups that claimed they were prepared to sue the website for hosting negative comments on their properties.

I’m one of those who makes comments on TripAdvisor, and I do try to be fair, but I have to say that sometimes I am surprised by comments that I see regarding some of the hotels that I’ve stayed at, and the comments that I read bear no resemblance to the type of experience that I have had.  I guess that everyone can have both good and bad experiences at hotels, and, generally speaking, I look at a range of comments when deciding on a hotel rather than believe one particular comment.

From the comments that I’ve read on TripAdvisor about some perfectly good hotels that I have stayed at, I would say that some people have unreasonable expectations regarding the type of services they are going to receive for their budget.

However, I acknowledge that one bad experience can ruin a stay, and sometimes hotel staff can be slow to resolve a problem.  That said, I think that TripAdvisor generally provides a good service through its forums and comment pages, and Accor’s decision to use TripAdvisor comments as a guide may help to improve their performance, which will see their business grow.
