Fire & Ice Cruise

Here’s an interesting cruise concept for anyone who wants a variety of experiences, two cruises and a variety of land-based touring.  Called the Fire & Ice Cruise, it has been put together by Best Cruises by combining two cruises programmes, one of  which, Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas starts in Hawaii and sails the islands to Vancouver. Disembark in Vancouver for a short stay before you board the Holland America ship Zuiderdam for a cruise of Alaska’s Inside Passage.

The whole itinerary takes 24 days to complete, and there are plenty of activities on offer in addition to the normal on-ship pleasures.

For the Hawaii phase you visit the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii and Maui where you can indulge in snorkeling, scuba-diving, swimming, whale-watching, horseback riding, helicopter tours, hiking, golfing, big-game fishing and, of course, surfing. The big Island, Hawaii, is the land of fire, being home to some of the world’s most active volcanoes.

From Hawaii the ship cruises to Vancouver where you disembark to spend a couple of days in Vancouver.  From there you enjoy one night at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, before boarding Zuidam to cruise the Inside Passage.  When cruising the Passage you sail through Tracy Arm Fjord which is actually made up of two separate fjords. Both fjords are over 30 miles long and one-fifth of their area is covered in ice. Tracy Arm Fjord features hundreds of waterfalls, giant chunks of falling ice and a huge variety of native wildlife.
