Tent up 10 kilometres from Sydney city

When you go to a major city such as Sydney, Australia, you really don’t expect to be able to set up your tent or park your caravan too close to the city, but Sydney is different from most major cities, and has a lot of natural bushland very close to the central business district.

The Lane Cove River is a tributary of the Parramatta River, which runs into Sydney Harbour. Along the banks of the river is the Lane Cove National Park, a popular recreation area for Sydneysiders, and near there is the Lane Cove River Tourist Park, an award-winning camping and caravan park, with relatively easy access to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and the rest of Sydney.

Despite the fact that it is almost an inner city tourist park, albeit one with lots of trees around it, the park does practice ecotourism, with the emphasis being on the appreciation of the environment around the park.

Apparently every dollar spent in the park goes towards goes towards preserving the natural environment and to maintain a carbon neutral footprint.

Those with a fondness for Australian TV may recognise the park, as it is used for filming the caravan park scenes for the long-running TV series Home and Away.  You may not see the character Alf bellowing at people, but you will probably wake up to the hearty laugh of the Kookaburra as it chortles away to itself.

There are plenty of spots for caravans, campervans and tents in the park, but for those without their own accommodation, there are also cabins for hire.  But don’t think you have to slum it just because you’re camping.  The Lane Cove River Tourist Park for with their Tandara Eco tents you can go glamping, which means camping in luxury.  The Tandara Eco Tent is a spacious canvas tent designed for two people that has a full king size bed, quality bedding, wi-fi internet access, large flat screen TV, subscription TV, fridge, electronically controlled entertainment and lighting, easy chairs, floating wooden floor, and a luxurious bathroom in which the shower has two shower heads and dual controls which enables two people to shower at the same time.  There is a full size bath, modern hand basin and exceptional quality fittings throughout.

The Lane Cove Tourist Park is a quality resort which takes its environmental responsibility very seriously, and which offers the visitor a peaceful retreat close to the bustle of one of the world’s great cities.
